Hey friend! When it comes to parenting, have you ever wondered if you’re getting it right? What does success look like as a parent anyway? If you’re a parent, have a parent, or want to be a parent, don’t wait to listen to this episode! I had a fantastic conversation with Andy and Sandra Stanley about their new book, Parenting: Getting It Right.  With three grown children who love each other and love being together, even now that they no longer have to and can make those decisions for themselves, Andy and Sandra don’t hold back on sharing what they’ve learned in raising their family.  Listen in as Andy, Sandra, and I discuss all things parenting, like: How establishing their end goal for raising their children shaped their parenting decisions Why the law of the harvest applies to parenting (and why you can’t ignore it!) One of the most important things we can help our kids understand about their behavior Why teaching kids how to repair and restore relationships so is important Andy Stanley is the founder of North Point Ministries, with eight Atlanta-area churches and a network of 180 churches around the world, a gifted communicator, and the author of over 20 books. Sandra Stanley is the author of two devotionals, and she loves speaking and writing about faith, family, and fostering.   They have three grown children, whom Sandra homeschooled, and Parenting: Getting It Right is their first book.   Favorite quotes: “Your potential relationship with your adult children is much longer than the years or seasons you are in right now. Later is longer and you are sowing now you repent a healthy adult relationship with your kids.”  - Andy Stanley “Parenting with that relationship in mind gets us to the finish line.”  -Sandra Stanley “We don’t have rules just because we want to have rules. We have rules for reasons and to protect relationships. Our consequences for breaking the rules in our home were all tied to restoring the relationship.” -Andy & Sandra Stanley “One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a healthy marriage.” -Andy Stanley “A great marriage sets our kids up for success in a lot of ways.”  -Sandra Stanley Coaching this week: Habits for Moms: all about the power of 1% better and our trajectories. Welcome back, friends!  I can’t wait for you to listen to today’s conversation with Enneagram coach and podcast host Jesse Eubanks as we discuss his soon-to-released book, How We Relate: Understanding God, Yourself, and Others through the Enneagram.  Ok, so I’m going to come right out and say it… It’s very intriguing to consider the Enneagram alongside our relationship with God, isn’t it?! Jesse and I discuss so much in this one, including ways to experience more meaningful relationships with God, others, and ourselves. The value of understanding how we approach our relationships is the same way we approach our relationship with God as well. Jesse Eubanks is a certified Enneagram coach and host of The EnneaCast, a podcast exploring personality and relationships through the lens of the Enneagram. He is also the founder and executive director of Love Thy Neighborhood, an urban missions agency putting young adults on the front lines of nonprofit work. Jesse and his wife, Lindsay, have two children and live in Louisville, Kentucky.   Listen in to learn more about: The nine essential desires and how one comes to the forefront in our lives. Some of Jesse’s cardinal rules for using the Enneagram and why they are essential to consider. The three vital underlying emotions that are harming us and their antidotes. Favorite quotes: ~~“You can not have healthy relationships without self clarity. Self clarity is essential. It is essential for intimacy with other people, intimacy with God, and emotional flourishing. You need a tool to help you grow in your ability to see yourself from the outside and the Enneagram can serve you in that way. It will absolutely lead to deeper, more fulfilling relationships with God, other people, and yourself.” ~~“Our story that we have lived has a profound influence on who we are. We can’t understand our personality and our Enneagram type apart from understanding our life story.”  ~~“The Enneagram as a tool can definitely be utilized to help us grow in our self awareness and have an understanding of what’s happening on our end of the relationships we have with other people.”  ~~“It is really important to understand we are wielding something powerful when we look into the Enneagram and we suddenly have insights into other people. We have to approach that with a huge degree of humility, kindness, and empathy.”  This week’s coaching segment: A simple trick to make a new habit stick while giving yourself grace. Hey, hey, everyone! Today I welcome show writer, speaker, coach, and podcast host, Jen Pollock Michel for a very insightful (and much-needed) conversation about our love-hate relationship with our clocks and the anxiety it often brings to our lives. Be sure to listen to how Jen discusses a couple of truths she has landed on, including-  “Time belongs not to us but to God.”  “There is always enough time to do what God has planned.” Whew. So good but often so hard to live, am I right, friends?!  She reminds us of the importance of living not in our timing or the timing of others but in having the courage to live in God’s timing for our lives.  So much wisdom is found in what Jen discovered while writing her most recent book titled, In Good Time: 8 Habits for Reimagining Productivity, Resisting Hurry, and Practicing Peace…. I promise you don’t want to miss out on this eye-opening conversation! Jen Pollock Michel holds a B.A. in French from Wheaton College, an M.A. in Literature from Northwestern University, and is working on completing an M.F.A from Seattle Pacific University. After eleven years of living in Toronto, Jen now lives in Cincinnati with her husband and two youngest children. Listen in to learn more about: What time anxiety is and how it plays out in our lives, whether we're trying to find time, save it, manage it, or make the most of it. Some of the assumptions we often have concerning time management and how we can ground our lives in God’s timing. The eight practical habits for reimagining productivity and how embracing those will help us develop a healthier relationship with the clock. Favorite quotes: “A faithful life is a courageous life. Tuning our ears to God’s voice takes a lot of courage.”  “A practical place to start is to think about habits and practices of everyday life.”   “There is not a right way. It is actually living every day in faithful response to God’s voice. ”  Coaching this episode:  The Secret to Habits Without the Hassle  (27:00) Links to great things we discussed:  Jen Pollock Michel - Website  In Good Time: 8 Habits for Reimagining Productivity, Resisting Hurry, and Practicing Peace By Jen Pollock Michel Counterproductive: Time Management in the Knowledge Economy By Melissa Gregg Glittering Vices: A New Look at the Seven Deadly Sins and Their Remedies By Rebecca Konyndyk DeYoung The Bear  Madmen  L'Occitane Pure Shea Butter Atomic Habits By James Clear Avatar: The Way of Water I Thank God - Maverick City Music Join the Confident Motherhood Community here. Merry day after Christmas, friends!  How about we just start today’s episode with this thought… I think it’s safe to say none of us are disappointed that 2022 is on its way out the door.  As I planned what to talk about on the show today, I couldn’t help but think about how we’re all continuing to process everything that has happened this year (and the last two years really!) while also planning for the one to come.  With that in mind, I felt a little nudge that I needed to talk about Chapter 9 of my book, Fierce Faith: A Woman's Guide to Fighting Fear, Wrestling Worry, and Overcoming Anxiety. In 2017, I titled that chapter “What If Things Fall Apart?” and I don’t think anything could be more relevant now.  I'm so excited to share the chapter with you today. I sincerely hope that this chapter brings peace about the future and encourages you to find your own stones of remembrance to remind you of God's faithfulness along the way. Listen in to hear all about: How fear can paralyze us from making our dreams come true. What can happen when we wait for the perfect moment to take action (and how it can keep us wandering around the desert for 40 years). What God really thinks about our plans to become successful in all that we do. Links: Order your copy of Fierce Faith here You can also join the Confident Motherhood Community here. On the show today, we’ll dive into Chapter 10 of my latest book, Standing Strong. This chapter, titled Ask For It: I’m Relearning How Prayer Really Works, is especially relevant today as we all look towards 2023 and what next year may bring.  In Chapter 10, I share how God revealed to me that he genuinely wants to partner with each of us in our journey and how an intentional walk with him is the adventure of a lifetime. But it all starts with prayer, my friends.  Prayer is powerful, and we know that. However, our prayers also have the power to change God’s mind. He always listens because He cares about us and knows what matters to us.  Inviting Him through prayer helps us better understand his plan for our lives, even when we resist because we think we have it all figured out.  So as we approach the end of 2022, I challenge you to ask for what you need in full faith that God will give you what is best for you. Listen in to hear all about: How the ways we view God determine how we live our lives. To step into the life God has called you to, you must know the truth and partner with it. Instead of living in the land of “good enough,” we should ask God to show us His “immeasurably more.” Order your copy of Standing Strong here. Have you ever wondered if you’re hearing God or just listening for what you want to hear? Me too, friend! This is why I’m re-airing an episode  I had earlier this year with Pete Greig as he talks with me about how to hear God, which I believe to be one of the most important topics we’ve ever covered on the show. (Hence the re-air because it never hurts to hear important information more than once, am I right?!) Pete and I discuss why hearing God speak to us is so challenging for some. And we also talk about how to identify what’s actually the voice of God and ways to sort through delusion and deception. We are covering so much ground in this episode! Pete has committed his life to help people hear the voice of God and facilitating the supernatural outpouring of His word and truth throughout the world. In addition to being a best-selling author, Greig is one of the founding champions of the earth-rattling 24-7 Prayer Movement and Senior Pastor of Emmaus Road Church in the south of England. Listen in to hear all about: Why we are comfortable talking to God but not so much talking with God. Differentiating between when God is speaking to us and what isn’t actually God at all. How to determine the difference between God’s word and God’s whisper (and why it matters!).  Favorite quotes: ~ How do ordinary, normal people, grow in the most important thing we’ll ever do, which is walking and talking with God? ~ Ask yourself : a) Is this affirming? b) Is it Biblical? c) Is it Christlike? If the answer is yes, this is affirming, biblical, and Christlike, then it will be good even if it isn’t God. ~ We need to hear God in community. We often need to discern God's will with other people, not just our own thoughts. In this episode I answered this question: I feel uncomfortable building a platform. How can I do it in a healthy way? Hey friend! Do you find yourself still reeling from the extraordinary changes we’ve experienced over the past two years in one way or another? (My hand is raised over here for sure!) Today, I’m bringing back one of my favorite episodes from 2022 - the amazing  Shauna Niequist ! I brought this conversation back from the archives because I don’t know about you, friend, but this book and Shauna’s message still feel relevant to what’s going on around me right now. I hope you also find value in listening to this one once again with me. In this episode, Shauna and I take a deep dive into how pain can make us tender, demand less of the world, and show us the good even in the face of what has been lost. We also talk about how seasons of significant loss can act as catalysts to significant transformation in our lives. Our pain doesn’t define us; what we do with it does. You truly don’t want to miss this one, my friend! Shauna Niequist is the New York Times bestselling author of Cold Tangerines, Bittersweet, Bread & Wine, Savor, Present Over Perfect, and her latest book, I Guess I Haven’t Learned That Yet. She is married to Aaron, and they live in New York City with their sons, Henry and Mac.  Listen in to hear all about: The concept of finding your next self. The importance of taking care of ourselves (and how to cultivate a desire to fight for our health!). How to live lightly and be a person who is easily delighted.   Favorite quotes: ~~If you feel overwhelmed by the mess that your life has become, don't try to go through that alone.  ~~I need to not listen to the voices that are telling me who to be, I need to get quiet enough to listen to the voice deep inside of me to see what she has to say.  ~~We don't change when we are feeding ourselves a steady diet of shame and abuse. We change when we anchor ourselves in love and self-esteem - That’s what gives us the courage to make changes. ~~I want to walk through life not dragging around these resentments, grudges and complaints. I want to live with a sense of freedom, with a lot of space inside myself,  inside my heart for possibility for the present and the future instead of feeling like I am dragging my past behind me like an anchor. ~~I want to maintain the capacity to be easily delighted. I want to be a person for whom joy comes easily and frustration is harder to come by. ~~Pain can tenderize you and can make you demand less of the world and can show you what’s good even in the face of what’s been lost.
