Hey Friends! I’m so excited about today’s episode and it is a special one! On the show today, I’m joined by my good friend, and Called Creatives Co-founder Lisa Whittle. This episode was quite vulnerable for me but I just loved our conversation!  We take a deep dive into why we need to find the good during the hard seasons, how to allow God to work in us during setbacks for bigger and better comebacks, and how to navigate through some of those “good“ hard seasons like loss, grief, and jealousy.  Can you imagine living life led by managed feelings versus out-of-control emotions? Lisa and I go over how that’s possible and what the difference is.  Listen in to hear us talk about : How to shift the narrative from “what if” to “what is,” so that God can bring us back in a different way  How to know when God is speaking to us Allowing God to manage our feelings so they come back under our control.   Favorite quotes: 1. Whatever draws us to the good is good for us. 2. We need to make peace with a life that has gone rogue on us.   In this episode I answer this question: 1. I feel so uncomfortable with self-promotion. How can I build my business in a way that doesn’t feel “icky”? (42:03) Great things we discussed:  1. Lisa Whittle  2. The Hard Good 3. Warby Parker  4. Maverick City Music  5. Jungle Cruise  6. Pillow Slides 7. Called Creatives  8. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Do you feel so overwhelmed and stressed out you don’t know where to go or what to do? What if I told you that you could have a life that is aligned with your priorities and space for all the things you want to do? Well, friends, today is an episode just for you!  My friend and friend of the show, the brilliant Allie Casazza is here to talk about minimalism and tips on how to declutter to destress our lives, families, and home. We talk about hot mess mom culture, how to make minimalism work for you, and tips for managing the kids’ toys (and the dog toys, too!)  Allie Casazza wants to eradicate the "hot mess mom" stereotype by empowering other women. She has built a massive audience and a multimillion-dollar online business based on her proven, family-oriented approach to minimalism. She is also the host of The Purpose Show, a chart-topping podcast, and the creator of multiple online programs and courses that garner tens of thousands of registrations each time they run. Her platforms continue to grow every day as more women discover her life-changing approach to creating an abundant life.  Tune in to hear more about:  Allie’s journey on how she become the go-to “minimalist mom”  How to take ownership of your life by taking ownership of your space The ways being a mother impact your sense of identity The importance of setting the intent for each room in your home.  Favorite quotes: 1. If you can take ownership over your space, you can take ownership over your life. 2. You being a mom is not your identity. It is a piece of what you’re here to do, just a piece. A really beautiful important piece of it.  3. There’s always going to be some level of mess even if you declutter. So what can you do to stop taking on all the pressure on yourself to maintain the house and clean it up? Put your kids in charge of their own stuff, set boundaries, do chore charts, do consequences. Whatever it is that fits in your parenting style. Set it up in some way so you're not the only one doing everything.  4. It’s about connecting with who you are in each room and setting up your space to support you. When we do that, we have an intention for the space and that helps us make decisions about the stuff.  5. If clutter is always unmade decisions, then declutter is to make decisions.  In this episode I answer this question: I’m setting up my business, what are the most important systems I need to build right now? (44:24) Great things we discussed:  1. Allie Casazza 2. Declutter Like A Mother 3. Asana 4. Trello5. Woman6. Frasier 7. Flex Disc 8. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Friends! You’re in for a treat today as we jump into a powerful discussion with my new friend, the brilliant Dr. Beth Allison Barr.    Beth is an associate professor of history and associate dean of the Graduate School at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she specializes in medieval history, women’s history, and church history. She is the president of the Conference on Faith and History and is a member of Christians for Biblical Equality. And she has serious credentials, having written for Christianity Today, the Washington Post, and Religion News Service, and is a regular contributor to The Anxious Bench, the popular Patheos website on Christian history.   Beth joins me on the show today to talk about her latest book, The Making of Biblical Womanhood, and the importance of knowing the history of what women have been through. We also dive into the importance of understanding the context and culture of the day when reading the Bible, and the cost of the reformation for evangelical women.  Listen to learn more about:  How to become more biblically literate by approaching the Bible with contextual understanding of the day when it was written What the Reformation cost women in terms of opportunities and society norms Why it’s important to understand our history even in religious contexts Junea, the first female apostle, and how she was written out of the Bible.    Favorite quotes: Biblical womanhood is one of the most recent manifestations of the patriarchy.   I think the cost of the reformation for evengelacial women is that it made only one right way for us to be Godly. And that was to be married with children under the authority of our husbands.    Culture shapes the way we view women and men in a way that women and men are not shaped in the Bible.    There was a wage gap in the medieval world. Women made about 71 cents to the dollar, if we put it in modern terms. And here we are in the 21st century and women make about 75 cents to the dollar compared with men for doing the same jobs. I think that is a very powerful example of something  going on in which women's work is not valued in the same way as men. That women are seen as not as not quite as good as men around them.   In this episode I answer this question: I know my fear of failure is holding me back, how do I put myself out there even though I’m scared to make mistakes? (46:10) Great things we discussed:  1. Beth Allison Barr on Twitter  2. The Making Of Biblical Womanhood  3. Bon Jovi  4. Loki   5. Summersalt   6. Coach School   7. Hey friends! We’re wrapping up the 2021 Smart Girl Summer Series today with the wonderful Holley Gerth. Holly is a life coach and author, and she brings a wealth of insight and wisdom for all of the introverts out there (including me!).  Holly is a Wall Street Journal bestselling author, podcaster, and life coach, with a Master’s of Science in counseling. She has spent the last decade empowering nearly a half a million people to realize their God-given potential through books like You’re Already Amazing, Fiercehearted, and The Powerful Purpose of Introverts. In this episode, Holley and I take a deep dive into stepping into God’s calling despite your fear, how she manages comparison and imposter syndrome (yes, even today!), and how we need to honor our personal capacity and purpose.  Listen in to learn more about: Holley’s story of transitioning out of a full-time job to pursue writing and how she worked through that fear.  Looking at our own purpose and not other people’s journey and calling. We need the truth speakers to call us back to our true selves, just like God does.  Resisting the constant input from others that tells us to do all the things, all the time that leads us to feeling like we’re falling behind and distracted from what really matters.   Favorite quotes: 1. If we just keep doing the next thing and then the next thing, then God will meet there and turn it into what he wants it to be. 2. We have to be willing to start out being bad at stuff and know that’s okay, that's the only way through it. 3. So as long as something really matters to us, we are going to have an element of fear when we pursue it.  4. Pausing and asking: how has God designed me? And believing whatever the answer is, is intentional. We are created perfectly for His purpose for our lives.   5. I think we underestimate what a little bit at a time can do in the long term if we’re consistent.    Great things we discussed: 1. Holly Gerth 2. Introvert Quiz  3. Yasso Frozen Yogurt Bars 4. Evernote 5. Standing Strong  Hope you loved this episode! Be sure to subscribe in iTunes and slap some stars on a review! :) xo, Alli  www.alliworthington.com/holleygerth/

Smart Girl Summer continues with one of my most popular guests of all time, the amazing Beth McCord of Your Enneagram Coach! Beth is an Enneagram speaker, coach and teacher with 17 years of experience and a co-founder of Your Enneagram Coach, the leading platform for all things Enneagram. Beth is passionate about coming alongside individuals and helping them re-write their stories, allowing them to see that lasting change, meaningful relationships, and a life of deep purpose is possible. This passion is what drove her to create this community, a safe place for individuals to explore the Enneagram. Beth and I talk about the first days of her business, how she knew she was called by God to do this, three keys that are part of her business’ success, and the daily work she does to stay focused and committed to her business. We also dive into how we can avoid blind spots in our daily lives by understanding the true nature of ourselves.   Listen in to hear all about: How God has a plan and a story for each and every one of us, and how we can trust His plan and move forward in faith.  How to focus on our own work and lives in order to be exactly the person God created you to be. How the Holy Spirit doesn’t shame or mock us. The Holy Spirit will set our feet on a firm foundation to keep us moving in the right direction.   Favorite quotes: 1. It is important for people to recognize God has a plan and a story for their life. We need to faithfully trust the process, the steps, the unclarity. Because he's got the clarity and we need to just keep going forward.2. I think a lot of times people get going in their business and then they stop for many reasons. But what we have to realize is that it's going to be hard and you've got to, with the Lord's help, figure out what you need to do.3. Recognize you may not have all the answers. You may not have all the expertise. But just get it out there. There are people that need this.  4. Every day I'm having to battle this internal dialogue and so it's exhausting. When I wonder: can someone else do this? Then God gently reminds me ‘No, I called you specifically for specific reasons to do this work for specific people who are going to be blessed.’ 5. I encourage people to be careful when listening to other people's stories. It's great to listen, learn, and grow. But don't fall into the trap that my story is your story or my advice should be the advice you take.   Great things we discussed:  1. Beth McCord 2. What Is The Enneagram  3. Slack4.  Sob Rock5.  Brow Chow 6. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Be sure to subscribe in iTunes and slap some stars on a review! :) xo, Alli

Hey Hey friends! Once again, our Smart Girl Summer series continues again this week with the amazing and inspiring, Kennesha Buycks.  Kennesha is a mom, gifted artist, writer, and curator. Also, she is the creative force behind Restoration House, a dream realized while living on the island of Oahu, Hawaii back in 2010.   A proud Alabama girl, Kennesha realized at a very young age she had a knack not only for the creative but for connecting the hearts and minds of the communities in which she had the privilege of sharing life through those very talents.  She has such a unique perspective when it comes to following her why for her life and her business, and her passion to bring encouragement, honesty, and inspiration to each and every project she works on.  In today’s episode, we discuss how we can protect ourselves from imposter syndrome, shame, and comparison, encouragement for the hard seasons of life, and how we can lean into God to make sure we are following what He is calling us to do. Also, you don’t want to miss hearing my take on Medium or Fine ballpoint pens!  Listen to learn more: How to use boundaries in place for social media so that you don't get sucked in with comparison and shame.  How we need to be careful of sharing too much of our lives on social media and we need to set the standards for the generations that follow us.  When you use your gits the way that you are supposed to, it serves someone in a way that no one else can do but you.   Favorite quotes: 1. I think my heart is to always try to get us back to what God always intended. If we think about Scripture and we look at Genesis, we think about the garden that was our first home. That was where we were meant to commune with Jesus, with God, with the Holy Spirit.2. It's helpful to remember my why, remember my purpose, it helps me focus on the fact that I don't have to feel like an imposter if I'm actually doing what I'm called to do. 3. I believe that when we're vulnerable it brings freedom. 4. I think that when we're in a space where we are freely flowing, because I think when we're not publicizing our work as an artist, when we're not putting our stuff out there, whether it's words or actual paintings or whatever your artistic form is, when we're not putting it out there, we have a different energy and we have a different motivation We're literally just creating to create.   Great things we discussed: 1. Restoration House 2. Instagram 3. Tome 4. Space Jam 5. Freedom Look Good On You6. Profile Ballpoint Pens 7. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Smart Girl Summer continues with the fabulous and incomparable Meshali Mitchell, and, y’all, it’s a good one! Meshali is a photographer, public speaker and soon-to-be author, and I absolutely loved chatting with her. She is so relatable when it comes to starting and building her photography business, following God’s calling for her life as well as her passion for storytelling through her art.  In this episode, Meshali and I take a deep dive into the hardest part of building her business, battling comparison and imposter syndrome (even today!) and how we need to rebrand our failures and flops into tests and lessons learned. Plus, she *almost* convinces me that I need to get some fancy chickens. Listen in to learn more about: How Meshali decided to pivot into photography after earning her social work degree  How you can leverage your relationship with God when you feel imposter syndrome creeping in Practical tips for those days when you want to throw the towel in on the projects you feel called to complete. Favorite quotes: 1. I believe everyone's called to pioneer something.2. Through prayer and honestly just growth and maturity, I came to a point where I got a strong conviction that there is only one me. And I'm called to create in such a specific way. It was that conviction. Knowing there's only one me. This is a calling. Only I can fulfill what God's called me to do as an artist. 3. It's impossible to compare my work or myself with any other photographer. And all of us see uniquely, especially in the photography world. You kind of have to aggressively get a hold of that. 4. One of the keys to success is surrounding yourself as much as possible with key people that spur you on and cheerleaders around you that see beyond what you see in yourself. Great things we discussed:  1. Meshali's Website2. Meshali on Instagram  3. Charcoal mask4. Benefit mascara5. Tomorrow War6. Caviar Volumizing Mascara 7. Standing Strong. Hope you loved this episode! Smart Girl Summer continues again this week, and I’m so excited to be joined again by my closest friend, author, speaker, and leadership coach, Jo Saxton. When Jo is on the show, you know it will be excellent and full of genuine honesty and fun!  Jo has dedicated her career to growing leadership teams worldwide and empowering women to find their purpose in their personal lives and in leadership. She is continuing this mission by making sure they have access to training and opportunities that women need.  In this episode, we talk about what to do when you feel called by God to do one thing while you are doing something else, finding the threads that God shows us, as well as the idea of who you want to be on the other side of the crisis.  Jo and I also discuss the kryptonite for women who are following their calling, trying to find abundance in a scarce place, and Jo’s upcoming event this fall. (She even shares a discount code!)  Listen in as we also discuss:  How Jo got started, where she is now, and where she is headed The way to ensure experiments are successful (and it’s not by whether they actually succeed or not!) The mindset needed during transitions so that we can become more creative and more self-aware What God expects from us as we face a challenge (and what He does for us every day)   Favorite quotes: 1. I think these threads are like cross-stitch or a tapestry, the front that others may see seem logical. The back, the actual journey, is a hot mess of threads that are entangled and weaving in and out. 2. Just because it's uncertain doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. It doesn't mean it's all falling apart. And even if it is all falling apart, it doesn't mean it's over. It means I've got to be curious about it, rather than give up and walk away.3. Transition isn't just an aberration and an evil thing. It can be hard for sure, but transition is an opportunity to be creative. This is an opportunity to become more self aware and aware of what God is saying to me. This is an opportunity to dust off some things.  4. Arriving at the end of transition isn't the point, it's how you transition that matters. 5. I think we forget what it is to learn. And we forget that learning is integral to our gifting, and our calling.   Great things we discussed: 1. Jo Saxton  2. Ezer Collective   3. Elemis 4. Black Widow  5. Sweet Ever After 6. Dashing Diva 7. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Be sure to subscribe to iTunes and slap some stars on a review! :) xo, Alli

Hey friends! Smart Girl Summer Series continues with the fantastic Jen Fulwiler! And she is dropping all sorts of knowledge and insight.  Jen is a standup comic, bestselling author, former Sirius XM Radio host, and mom of six. And as if that isn’t impressive enough, she self-produced her first standup comedy tour, booking theaters across the country with nothing more than a Google search and her personal credit card. And she sold out almost every show! We talk about her famous Tik Tok videos, how she pivoted through a pandemic as a stand-up comic, and the lessons she’s learned when dealing with self-sabotage and resistance moments. We also dive into how she faces a setback, gets out of her own way, and some of her “bomb” moments. Listen in to hear all about: How courage is like playing a sport. Some have a natural talent for it and others have to practice.  The importance of getting help where you need it if you want to accomplish your goals and dreams. (And how to embrace the grace needed to accept that help! )  And for those using social media in their every day business pursuits, she shares the differences between Tik Tok and Instagram and the importance of knowing the demographics for each platform.   Favorite quotes: 1. Courage is like playing a sport, in the sense that some people might be just born with more natural skill in that area than others but anyone can learn to be good at it if they practice.   2. You learn about the game of life by taking little risks and letting them turn into bigger risks. You start to feel more comfortable with the bigger risks because you just have more experience with risk.   3. Going for it is the most humble thing you can do. In fact when people stop themselves, it is actually their ego driving. It is your ego saying, “That would be embarrassing to me.”   4. When I face a setback, I speak in terms of action, not emotion, and that has really helped me move forward and stay strong. Even when I know I'm feeling frustrated or embarrassed or whatever it is.   5. I think it takes humility to say, “I can't do it all. I can't. I need some help in this department.” Great things we discussed:  1. Jen Fulwiler at her website, Instagram & Tic Tok 2. Hair Tutorial on Jen’s Insta 3. Phone Stand4.  Philosophy  5. Billions6. F9: The Fast Saga 7. Constellations 8. Bye Bye Pores 9. Standing Strong Hope you loved this episode! Be sure to subscribe in iTunes and slap some stars on a review! :) xo, Alli
