What does it look like to live fearless in an uncertain season? Today, I'm calling in the big guns and my most fierce and fabulous friend Lisa Bevere - to remind us what it means to be STRONG. Lisa shares what God has been placing on her heart specifically during this global pandemic, what this time can look like for believers if we allow testing to bring out our best, and why she believes we can still have the strength to laugh at the days ahead. We also do a deep dive into: -What it means to "speak life" to the dead things in our path -Why we are stronger when God strips things away from our life -And why we need to hang on tight for what's next! Favorite quotes: 1. Strong is not wrong, and so many women get mixed messages from the church about strength. They think that assertive is equal to combative or they think confidence is prideful so they tend to back down their strengths. 2. If we are going to be women who do good rather than just look good, we are going to have to develop a strength that goes to our core, because right now most people are okay looking strong but not doing things that require strength. 3. I believe in a time of testing. God tests us to bring out the best. He brings out the best. He shows us realities. In this episode I answer these questions: 1. How do I know if I’m self-sabotaging myself and if I am, how do I stop it? (39:22) 2. How do I learn to trust God? (46:25) 3. How should the “about me” page on my website be written? What's the best strategy for success? (52:54) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Lisa Bevere 2. Strong: Devotions To Live A Powerful And Passionate Life 3. Cody Carnes Nothing Else 4. Monk 5. Howards End 6. The Chosen 7. Fierce Faith Hope you loved this episode! Be sure to subscribe in iTunes and slap some stars on a review! :) xo, Alli

If God asked you to walk away from your dream job and everything you've ever worked for, could you do it? Today, we are joined by the brave and brilliant Paula Faris as she shares the jaw-dropping story of walking away from her journalism career for ABC News, Good Morning America Weekend and The View. Paula shares insight into how God got her attention, her challenge to stop finding her identitiy in career alone and what it was like to live through what she calls the " year". Paula also shares: - How the American dream was impacting her health, marriage and family. - The 3 keys to identifying out true "vocational calling". - Her year and how she came out of it stronger. Favorite quotes: 1. When we ignore God and ignore that stirring and that restlessness in our spirit that we know is coming from Him, He will get our attention. 2. I think we can sense when something is off and God will let you know. He will got to great lengths to get your attention. I think he's trying to get a lot of our attention at this moment right now. He can use any sort of crisis for His glory to redeem the moment. To redeem your life. To redeem my life. 3. Give yourself the permission if you feel a stirring, permission to branch out, because your gifts and unique talents can translate to so many different capacities. In this episode the coaching question is: How do you say no to people without feeling guilty? (38:26) Links to great things we discussed: 1. Paula Farris 2. Called Out 3. Hillsong- Touch of Heaven 4. Passion is a movement founded by Louie and Shelley Giglio in 1995, Passion has been rooted in the truth of Isaiah 26:8 – “Yes Lord, walking in the way of Your truth we wait eagerly for You, for Your name and Your renown are the desire of our hearts” - existing to glorify God by uniting students in worship, prayer, and justice for spiritual awakening in this generation. Passion has ushered in the writing, recording, and leading of some of the most recognizable and unforgettable worship anthems of this generation and is currently helmed by Kristian Stanfill, Brett Younker, and Melodie Malone. Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Crowder, Christy Nockels and more have also lent their voices alongside Passion throughout the years. What do we pray when we don't want to pray? What do we say to God when we are angry or hope feels lost? Today, I'm joined by my friend and the best storyteller on the planet, Shelia Walsh. Shelia shares about the personal journey that led her to write her latest book "Praying Women" and why it's been especially important during this global pandemic. Shelia shares powerful testimony and insight into how she knows God is near to the brokenhearted and why we shouldn't shy away from prayer even when our words fall short or our hearts lack strength. We also talk about: 1. Where to start if you aren't sure how or what to pray. 2. If God is sovereign and already knows our fate, why pray? 3. How to pray boldly and proactively for our families. Favorite quotes: 1. The level that we’re willing to be honest with God is an indication of how much we actually trust who He is. 2. No prayer is wasted. A lifetime is not too long to pray. 3. Prayer was so important to Jesus. If you think about the number of times that He woke up really early in the morning or late at night when the disciples are exhausted and He sends them off in a boat but He goes up to the mountains to pray. If prayer was so important to Jesus why would we think it should be any less important to us. In this episode, I answer this question- “I want to start a business but I don’t know if I have a great idea for it yet. How do I know if my business will work? I know it’s time to take the leap and I want to make sure I won’t fail. How do I know for sure?” Links to great things we discussed: 1. Praying Women 2. Free 8 week bible study / Code word: HOP 3. My guest today, Sasha Shillcutt MD, is a dear friend, coaching client, and hero on the front lines during this global pandemic. Today, it's such an honor to share her story! We spoke a few weeks before the Coronavirus hit the US and Sasha shared her incredible story of how burnout and overcommitment led her to make radical life changes and even start an organization to help others! She talks about how she found herself again, found community and friendships after a season of loneliness, and how she bravely pursues authentic leadership. We also chat about: -Common problems women face in leadership and why most find themselves unhappy the higher they climb. -Why she started her community, Brave Enough. -The power of women sharing their skills and gifts. Favorite quotes: 1. The reality is that most of the time, our life is that in between. We're between grit and grace, and it's a spectrum, and it's okay. 2. I’m a research nerd on gender issues in the workplace. If you look in the psychology literature, there's an interesting phenomenon that as women have become more successful in the workplace, we've actually become less happy in the workplace. 3. Spend time with yourself and unplug. Because what I hear and what I see is that women, when you have 30 minutes, you don't want to be with yourself. You don't want to think in your own head and do a little internal checklist on how you're doing because it's scary. I can tell you that clarity comes, I think for most of us when we spend time alone, and that means unplugging. In this episode, I’m answering this question- Did God create evil if He created everything? Links to great things we discussed: 1. Sasha Shillcutt 2. Between Grit and Grace: The Art of Being Feminine and Formidable 3. L'Oreal Paris Makeup Double Extend Beauty Tubes Lengthening Mascara 4. TOO FACED Peach My Cheeks Melting Powder Blush 5. Today, I'm joined by my wonderful friend Jen Fulwiler and she's sharing the jaw-dropping story of how she started pursuing her dreams of writing and of stand up comedy. She shares so many lessons from her journey that will inspire us to fall in love with our bomb moments, find the gifts that truly set us aflame, and stop seeing our life-giving passions as "extra work." Jen is so bold and brave and I'm so excited for the belly laughs and deep truths she's bringing us today. We also chat about: -How she became wildly popular in a certain country in Europe -What is a "blue flame" passion and how do we find it? -Why her new book cover is making everyone blush Favorite quotes: 1. The defining thing about a blue flame is that it's not about you. It's about adding light and love to the world, but it fills you with energy when you use it. 2. I believe and continue to believe, to this day that using these gifts using my blue flame is a favor to my family. I feel like I did my kids and my family a favor by making space in my life for my writing work, which turned into my radio work, which turned into comedy. 3. One of the ways you get confirmation that this is the right path is that you have these little signal graces. These things that come together that are beyond coincidence. When it seems like God is clearing your path. Favorite quotes: 1. The defining thing about a blue flame is that it's not about you. How do you keep moving forward when the world seems to be caving in? How do you form habits for your future when everything seems so uncertain? How do you rise from adversity to strength? Friends, today's episode is powerful. It's the episode I recorded because it’s the episode I needed to hear. I'm joined by one of my best friends, leadership expert, and a picture of strength- Jo Saxton. We get raw, real, and share what we are both feeling during this unique time in history and how it's impacted us personally. We talk about adversity and how we can find faith and strength in the hardest times. Jo shares how suffering can uncover your calling, the role of innovation when the world's upside down, finding new ways to serve, and how to stay consistent with your calling when you want to quit. We also chat about: -How to be honest about your feelings, but not let fear overtake you. -The difference between trying and training. -Why you should give yourself permission to do things badly right now. Favorite quotes: 1. In this moment in our history, we really need to be unwrapping those gifts because they're not just about us. They're for human flourishing. They’re for the solution to the world's problems from a gracious and good God. 2. That scenario is familiar in terms of uncertainty and tragedy and pain. And what do we do in this moment? And will we be immobilized by the moment or will it be an opportunity? Can God do something with this and cause us to rise. 3. Feel your feelings because feelings aren’t the opposite of faith. Feel your feelings. Grieve the grief. You need to acknowledge them so they don’t flood your entire day. Links to great things we discussed: 1. Jo Saxton 2. Is it possible to reclaim the abundant life, the un-distracted life, a life deeply rooted in God--without making drastic life changes? We are going to tackle that today and let me tell you--our guest is a legend and an inspiration! Author, Speaker, and counselor John Eldridge pulls back the curtain and shares his struggle with burnout and digital distraction and the simple steps he implemented to regain a life worth living. He shares how one minute a day could change everything, why you don't have to move to a remote island to find peace, and how to turn the volume down on life to hear God more clearly. We also chat about: -Why grandparents need to occasionally press pause on social media too -Why beauty is important for healing -and why you need to take your shoes off more often Favorite quotes: 1. God never intended your soul to carry the heartache of the world. 2. There is a direct correlation between the amount of social media you imbibe and rising levels of anxiety and depression. 3. If you’re able to name what you were feeling it reduces the negative consequences. 4. We can all handle a crazy day. Everybody has crazy days and we can handle a crazy week but what’s become normal for us is crazy as normal. We don’t ever get out of it. We don’t have non-crazy weeks, we don’t have non-crazy months. We are sucked into it and the cumulative effect of that over the years is what really erodes our soul. 5. The world that we live in right now is really brutal on human beings. What we assume to be a normal pace of life, the amount of media that we intake, the amount of time on technology, but also the complexity of the world that most people find themselves having to navigate the trauma, the heartbreak in the world or in friends and family- all of it. That requires souls that are really well and really strong if you’re going to make it through this particular moment but this particular moment is perfectly designed from preventing your soul from being strong and from you being really rooted in the life of God. In this episode, I’m coaching you on how to not let fear overtake you and sharing three things you can do right now to help overcome anxiety. Links to great things we discussed: 1. John Eldredge 2. Get Your Life Back 3. One Minute Pause App 4. Vertical Worship- Shelter 5. Robert Karen- Becoming Attached 6. 1917 7. The Blessing 8. The Blessing (video) Hope you loved this episode!
